Star Wars, Assassin’s Creed, Avatar… Several Ubisoft games are blocked by the latest Windows 11 update

While the French publisher is slowly recovering to crash with the delicate exit of Star Wars Outlaws and the postponement ofAssassin’s Creed Shadowsnew problems beyond the control of Ubisoft are creating disorder. We learned today that the latest Windows 11 security update conflicts with many Ubisoft games that are now blocked and unplayable.

For once, It’s not Ubisoft’s fault. Unfortunately, it is they who pay the price. Following the publication of the new Windows 11 update (24H2), many games from the French publisher are blocked and inaccessible.

Microsoft immediately reacted by confirming on its support site that it was an abnormal failure, specifying that certain Ubisoft games could become “unresponsive on startup, loading, or during active gameplay” and other players might simply face a black screen: “To protect your Windows update experience, we have applied a compatibility block on devices where these games are installed. These devices will not be offered to install Windows 11, version 24H2 via the Windows Update release channel ».

Microsoft therefore recommends that players do not install the new update right away, otherwise the following games could be impacted:

• Assassin’s Creed Odyssey (2018)
• Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (2020)
• Assassin’s Creed Mirage (2023)
• Avatar : Frontiers of Pandora (2023)
• Star Wars Outlaws (2024)

For those who have already updated, Microsoft offers on its site an alternative solution to repair a large part Star Wars Outlawsalthough the title still suffers from performance issues. Microsoft and Ubisoft are currently working together to find a solution as soon as possible and promise to provide more information when both companies know more.

Please note that if you are one of the players who have already updated and you are faced with a game that is crashing and no longer responding, you can perform the following procedure which was shared on the official Microsoft website:

1. Open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc on your keyboard. Or, right-click the Start button and select Task Manager from the menu.
2. In the Task Manager window, find your game in the Processes tab. It may be listed under the name of the game or game launcher.
3. Click on the game name to highlight it. Then click on the End Task button at the bottom right of the window. This will close the game.
