Egypt eliminates Tunisia, Algeria finally wins…

The 5th and final day of the North Africa Zone (UNAF) qualifiers for CAN 2025 for the under-20s took place this Tuesday in Egypt.

While the Morocco, exempt from this final day, had already confirmed its qualification for the final phase, the last available ticket was played between the Egyptian host and Tunisia. Back to the wall facing Eagles of Carthage who could be satisfied with a draw, the Pharaons U20 sought their qualification by beating the Tunisians 1-0 on a goal from Ahmed Khaled (54th).

Despite their multiple opportunities against an opponent reduced to ten for almost an hour following the expulsion of Fares Khaled (40th), the Tunisians, 4th in the last edition, cruelly lacked efficiency and conceded a defeat synonymous with 'elimination.

Algeria ends up a card

While his hopes of qualifying were already gone, Algeria ended on a positive note, finally securing its first victory, against Libya, which it defeated 4-0. On fire, the young talent of JS Kabylie, Lahlou Akhrib, scored twice (75th, 80th) and offered two assists to Oussama Benattia of MC Oran (78th) and Mohamed El Amine Ramdaoui of AC Paradou (84th) .

As at the next CAN U17, Morocco and Egypt will therefore be the two representatives of the UNAF zone at the CAN U20.

The final ranking of the UNAF U20 Tournament

  1. Morocco, 10 points (qualified)
  2. Egypt, 7 points (qualified)
  3. Tunisia, 6 points
  4. Algeria, 5 points
  5. Libya, 0 points
