John Tinniswood, born in Liverpool on August 26, 1912, the year the Titanic sank. During World War II, he worked as an accountant in the British armed forces, then worked for oil giants Shell and BP.

He died at his retirement home in Southport, northwest England, “surrounded by music and love,” his family said in a statement. “John always liked to say thank you. On his behalf, we thank everyone who took care of him over the years,” she adds. John Tinniswood leaves behind a daughter, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was officially recognized in April as the oldest man in the world by Guinness World Records after the death of Venezuelan Juan Vicente Pérez Mora at the age of 114.

Fish and chips and moderation

John Tinniswood did not follow any particular diet, except a portion of fish and chips every Friday, “like all the other” residents of his retirement home.

This Liverpool Reds fan said earlier this year that his longevity was just “luck”, even if he advocated moderation to stay healthy.

“If you drink too much, if you eat too much, if you walk too much, if you do too much in general, you will end up suffering.”

International news, day and night, is here:

The remains of the aircraft of American aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart have ultimately not been found at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, announced the marine exploration company Deep Sea Vision.

The blurry sonar image, captured by an underwater robot, seemed to reveal the contours corresponding to the unique model of the aircraft of the aviator who disappeared almost a century ago. In fact, it only shows a common “rock formation”.
