The choice of Saint Catherine’s Day, the day when, according to the adage, every tree takes root, was opportune to realize the citizen project of planting trees with autumn fruits. Coming in second place during the votes on participatory projects, this project initiated by Nicole Rizzoni is the first to be completed. “There will be a second round of plantings in the spring but I wanted the first to be carried out on November 25,” said Geneviève Pirot, deputy in charge of participatory budgeting.
Planted behind the Semaphore and the sports hall, these six trees (a hazel tree, a medlar tree and four apple trees) were planted by the 26 students of the CM1-CM2 class of the primary school. “We prepared the holes, with soil and fertilizer, so that you can plant the trees,” explained Hervé Lestic, responsible for green spaces. Without dampening the students’ enthusiasm, Bénédicte Boiron, mayor of Trébeurden, told them: “You have to learn to respect the trees in order to be able to pick their fruits, both for yourself and to share them.”
