Colin Fortune Takes Reins at Athlone Town as New Manager

In a significant development for Women’s Premier Division champions Athlone Town, Colin Fortune has been appointed as the club’s new manager. Fortune takes on the role following the sudden resignation of Ciaran Kilduff, which came just one day after the conclusion of the 2024 season.

Fortune, with extensive experience both as a player and manager in the League of Ireland, has impressive credentials. His career includes spells at Athlone, Kildare County, Dundalk and Galway, and he had the honor of captaining the Republic of Ireland team at the Military World Games.

Fortune’s journey with Athlone began in the academy, where he worked diligently through the youth ranks before being promoted to manager of the senior men’s team in 2016. His coaching CV also includes a role as assistant coach at Galway United, where he served under Alan Murphy and John Caulfield for three years.
