Algeria is on the verge of realizing the long-awaited railway project, the Béchar-Gara Djebilet line. The National Agency for Studies and Monitoring the Implementation of Railway Investments (ANESRIF), in partnership with local and international companies, is doing everything possible to deliver this infrastructure before the contractual deadlines of March 2026.
This titanic project is part of Algeria’s desire to exploit its mining potential and modernize its transport infrastructure. The site was inaugurated in 2023, it is now entering its final phase by launching the last section. Thus, the delivery of this strategic railway line is planned for 2025.
ANESRIF is moving the construction site forward at high speed for delivery before contractual deadlines
Thanks to an efficient organization, under the directives of ANESRIF, mobilizing Algerian companies like Cosider and Infrarail. As well as foreign companies, notably the Chinese giant CRCCthe Béchar-Gara Djebilet railway line project is now progressing at a breakneck pace.

In fact, this railway is divided into 3 main sections:
- First section (200 km) : it connects Béchar to the borders of the wilaya of Béni Abbès. Different public companies are responsible for this section;
- Second section (175 km) : it connects Oum El Assel to Tindouf. This part is also entrusted to public companies;
- Third section (575 km) : this line is divided into two segments. The first links Béni Abbès to Oum El Assel (440 km), the second Tindouf to Gara Djebilet (135 km). This section is led by the Chinese company CRCC;
Completion planned for 2025: the Béchar-Gara Djebilet line project on the right track
The completion of the Béchar-Gara Djebilet railway line is planned for 2025. In addition, works of art, which are essential for the solidity and continuity of the sectionwill be finalized in the first quarter of next year, in March 2025.
To achieve these objectives, the project mobilizes more than 1600 heavy equipmentas well as a workforce of 3500 Algerian employees.

In terms of production, the project benefits from a unit dedicated to the manufacture of prestressed concrete sleepers, with a capacity of 3000 units per day. Furthermore, the production of ballast (an essential element for stabilizing the rails) continues to grow. Currently it is 40,000 tonnes. However, from December 2024, the production capacity will reach 100000 tons per day.
