On the night of Monday 25 to Tuesday 26 November 2024, an inhabited house was destroyed in a fire at a place called Les Loges in Curçay-sur-Dive (on the border with Deux-Sèvres), near Loudun.
Awakened by the barking of the dog
The disaster occurred around midnight. The father and his three children who live in the home were alerted and awakened by the barking of their dog, according to initial information communicated by the gendarmerie.
The father was able to shelter his children in time before taking his car out of the garage and alerting the firefighters. No injuries were reported. The owner's wife, who works night shifts, was not present.
A rehousing solution must be proposed by the town hall services.
Christmas garlands to blame?
The gendarmerie company has opened an investigation to determine the causes of the fire.
According to initial information, the fire started in the garage of the house before spreading to the other rooms. A fire of accidental origin, it seems. A short circuit on Christmas decorations (garlands) would not be excluded.
