A major fire ravaged the establishment this Monday, November 25 in the early evening. An apartment above was also damaged.
The fire which devastated the restaurant L’Albatros in Palavas-les-Flots on Monday, November 25 in the early evening was of accidental origin. According to findings made by the gendarmes, it was an electrical malfunction which triggered the disaster.
“The sea wind that was blowing fanned the flames”
Despite the intervention of the firefighters, who quickly deployed significant resources, as soon as the alert was given around 7:30 p.m., the 70 m2 of the wooden structure of the establishment caught fire. “It was impressive. We heard gas cylinders exploding and toxic black smoke spread. The sea wind blowing fanned the flames.”testifies Alain Benoit, the manager of Broderie Motards on the port of Palavas, whose apartment is located on the second floor of the L’Albatros building.
Residents evacuated until midnight
“A smell of smoke invaded the apartments. All the residents present, around thirty people, were evacuated. We were able to return home around midnight”adds the resident.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported, but an apartment located upstairs was also affected by the flames.
