For an evening like Michael Scofield's character in Prison Break, the 33-year-old man escaped the surveillance of the guards. A night which two years later cost him his freedom. According to L'Est Républicain, this inmate who tried to escape his placement at the Verdun accommodation and social reintegration center (Meuse) was tried by the Verdun judicial court this Wednesday, November 20.
The judgment is final: three additional months of incarceration et 1,000 euros in fines for degradation.
A night under the stars
The facts date back to February 17, 2022while the inmate was already incarcerated at Écrouves prison (Meurthe-et-Moselle), he was temporarily placed at the Verdun accommodation and social reintegration center. This winter night, he was supposed to return to his home apartment that same evening. But the thirty-year-old took the liberty of returning as the next morningaround 6 a.m., in a state of intoxication.
An absence justified by the accused
According to him, his short absence was motivated by the need to spend time with his partner and his mother, both seriously ill. An explanation which did not convince the courts. His delay, combined with violent behavior upon his return and an altercation with a neighbor and another resident, led to damage to the center's front door.
Extension of sentence
Already sentenced to serve sentence until the end of October 2025he has a new sanction added: three additional months in prison and a fine of 1,000 euros for the damage committed in the Verdun accommodation and social reintegration center.
