Monday, November 25, shortly before 7 p.m., an explosion rang out in a five-story building, rue du Cordouan, next to the covered market in La Rochelle, report our colleagues from France Info.
The explosion was followed by a fire. A 63-year-old woman has died. According to France bleu La Rochelle, she was staying on the third floor where the floor collapsed. The fire had spread to the roof.
Residents of neighboring buildings were evacuated because the buildings were damaged in this old neighborhood. The reasons for the explosion are not yet known. Some 45 firefighters were mobilized on site.
