Sex toys thrown at the staff, obligatory drinking the day before the match: multiple scandals in the Canadian women’s football team

However, according to the Globe and Mail investigation, the scandal surrounding the Canadian team is much bigger than that. As for spying, it was a habit among coaches. Worse, those who resisted found themselves ousted or resigned. A former member of the staff had warned the managers, none reacted.

In addition to this, a culture of “compulsory drinking” is established the day before matches. These evenings were called “staff social evenings” intended for the staff but not the players. During these famous evenings, several moments would have gone wrong. The Globe and Mail media reports that sexual objects were thrown at the Canadian staff, some sexually explicit questions were also asked during board games.

Images from a video where we see the staff dancing the caterpillar in a bathrobe the day before a match were analyzed. Deputy Jasmine Mander allegedly sharply reprimanded three other staff members several times.

Despite all the controversy generated by the staff as well as a six-point penalty, the Canadians, Olympic champions in 2021, managed to get out of the groups before losing in the quarter-finals against Germany.
