An explosion followed by a violent fire mobilized significant emergency resources on Monday, shortly before 7 p.m., at 12, rue du Cordouan in La Rochelle. According to the latest report sent to us at 6 a.m. this Tuesday, the disaster left one person dead.
Sixteen people were taken care of by emergency services, including seven rehoused by the town hall and nine people rehoused on their own.
The explosion was heard at 6:50 p.m. Two fire brigade vehicles, three fire vans, the large ladder and two hoses were mobilized to control the fire which shattered the front of a former laundromat.
The intervention prevented the fire from spreading to the roofs of neighboring houses.
At the height of the intervention, more than 40 firefighters were mobilized alongside a medical team from the Samu, municipal and national police, the latter having opened an investigation.
