L’ASSE snatched a narrow victory against the Montpellier HSC. This success also represents a nice achievement by Olivier Dall'Oglio (60 years old) facing Jean-Louis Gasset (70 years old). The outcome of the match seems to have particularly annoyed the Hérault technician.
ASSE: Olivier Dall'Oglio showers the return of Jean-Louis Gasset to Saint-Etienne
The reunion between ASSE and Jean-Louis Gasset was difficult for the former Greens coach. His team, Montpellier HSC, lost to AS Saint-Étienne, on the lawn of the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium. The Pailladins conceded the Saint-Etienne goal in the 47th minute of play and failed to equalize despite some interesting chances.
The solid Saint-Etienne defense, particularly well organized around a Younis Abdelhamid imperial in the absence of Mickaël Nadéwas able to resist the Montpellier assaults.
ASSE: A bitter success for Montpellier HSC and Gasset
Returning to his team's defeat against ASSE, Jean-Louis Gasset did not hide his disappointment. “We had the opportunities to open the scoring. In such a close match, efficiency is essential”he declared in the columns of Free Midday. The technician, called to the rescue to straighten out Montpellier HSC, also underlined the frustration of his players in the face of certain refereeing decisions and the intervention of the VAR, in particular on Abdelhamid's sliding tackle on Arnaud Nordin (38th) and a supposed fault by Léo Pétrot on Al Tamari (54th).
On these two actions, referee Florent Batta initially awarded a penalty, but subsequently overturned his decision following recourse to video assistance.
“Every time the referee consults the VAR, we hope for a decision in our favor. Unfortunately, these unfavorable decisions earned us numerous yellow cards. The players are frustrated and believe that there was a penalty for this action”he added.
Appointed last October, to succeed Michel Der Zakarian, Jean-Louis Gasset led four matches at the helm of Montpellier, for a record of three defeats and only one victory.
