As after each Grand Prix, it is time to discover the most striking statistics, the records that have been broken, the remarkable series still in progress or which came to an abrupt end during the last weekend…
Qualifications
George Russell achieved his third pole of the season after Canada, Great Britain and now Las Vegas. This is also his 4th career.
Carlos Sainz qualified second for the second year in a row in Las Vegas. This is the second time he has started from the front row in the last three races, following his pole position and victory in Mexico.
Pierre Gasly qualified third, even better than Esteban Ocon in Brazil (4th). This is only the second time in his career that he has qualified in the top 3, the first being in Qatar in 2021. He also qualified fourth in Las Vegas last year.
Charles Leclerc qualified fourth, and from this position, had taken his last two F1 victories (Monza and Austin). So not this time.
Only 6th, Norris has only started outside the top 3 three times in the last 14 races, but has never won starting beyond fifth.
For the 5th consecutive time, Lando Norris beat Oscar Piastri in qualifying.
Nico Hülkenberg made his 10th Q3 appearance of the season for Haas.
Sergio Pérez was eliminated in Q1 for the 6th time of the year (more than Max Verstappen’s total over his entire career at Red Bull).
The race
Max Verstappen has become a four-time world champion, joining Sebastian Vettel and Alain Prost.
The Dutchman is the sixth driver in F1 history to win four or more world titles (after Juan-Manuel Fangio, Alain Prost, Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton).
Verstappen joins Nelson Piquet (1981) and Keke Rosberg (1982) who also won the championship in Las Vegas.
He won the title on a Saturday evening for the second year in a row (after the Qatar Sprint last year).
Verstappen has led the Drivers’ Championship continuously since May 22, 2022, the longest period in F1 history.
Red Bull has now scored points in 65 consecutive races, the second longest streak in history (Ferrari holds the record with 83 consecutive races between 2010 and 2014).
2024 has already broken many records, thanks to a competitive season and an extended calendar! The 2024 season is thus the first in the history of F1 where four different manufacturers have achieved a double during a Grand Prix (Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren and now Mercedes).
It is also the first season where four manufacturers have each won at least four Grands Prix.
Finally, this is the first season where seven drivers have won several Grands Prix (at least 2 with the last victory of George Russell). It must be said that the lengthening of the calendar helps… Only Sergio Pérez is missing among the top teams.
George Russell took the third Grand Prix victory of his career.
Mercedes signed their 60th double in the team’s history, the first since São Paulo 2022 (the double in Belgium having been canceled by the disqualification of Russell).
Mercedes dominated every session in Vegas, from FP1 to the race. Deserved.
Hamilton remains seventh in the drivers’ championship, although he has never finished a season outside the top 6.
He has now finished on the podium on 36 different circuits, a record he already holds in F1.
Carlos Sainz finished third for Ferrari, his third podium finish in the last four Grands Prix.
Charles Leclerc finished fourth and is the driver who has scored the most points in races in the United States this season (64 points).
Lando Norris finished sixth for the second consecutive race.
Oscar Piastri finished seventh and ties Verstappen with 16 consecutive points finishes. Regularly in the points, but regularly behind Norris too.
Nico Hülkenberg finished eighth, allowing Haas to regain sixth place in the constructors’ championship with one point ahead of Alpine. It’s tight!
Yuki Tsunoda scores points for the second consecutive race and ninth time this season. Not enough to replace Sergio Pérez next year?
Sergio has only scored nine points in the last six Grands Prix.
Guanyu Zhou finished 13th, his second best performance of the season after an 11th place in Bahrain.
Alex Albon (Williams) retired and has not seen the checkered flag since Austin. No one has given up more than him this year (6 times).
There were no yellow flags during the race.
