Burned, stuffed, moved, the radars have a bad time with the farmers

Yes, burned. This happened in particular on the night of Friday November 22 to Saturday November 23, 2024, in Orne. A night of attacks was organized in the department, in Montilly-sur-Noireau and in Caligny, reports Actu.fr. The radars of both cities were ignited.

Also on the Centre-Val de side, radars were attacked on the night of Sunday 24 to Monday 25. This with bales of straw, in particular. According to Echo Républicain, tractors were taking bales towards Digny, to neutralize fixed and mobile radars. The Rural Coordination (agricultural union) even set itself the mission of stuffing all those in the department of Eure-et-Loir, further north.

Also in Finistère, radars were moved on the evening of Thursday, November 21 by the Young Farmers (another agricultural union). This is in order to drop them off in front of administrative buildings. One washed up in , in front of a building of the Departmental Directorate of Territories and the Sea (DDTM) reported Bleu. The other ended in front of the Departmental Directorate for Population Protection, in Stang Bihan.

Radars facing the sea

This follows other angry actions by farmers. At almost the same time, on November 18, in La Manche, the Young Farmers of La Manche moved three construction site radars. This before symbolically turning them towards the sea, on the Corniche of Barneville-Carteret. A way to “put the sea under surveillance. Because it is through the west coast that products imported from Mercosur will pass”.

And farmers don't plan to stop there. They intend to relaunch new operations. It remains to be seen whether other radars will suffer similar fates. Even as farmers across France make their anger heard. And the various and varied decommissioning of radars follow one another. This can sometimes have a lasting effect, as the machines are not always put back into service quickly.

To summarize

Will radars need bodyguards? The question deserves to be asked, when we see recent damage to these machines in recent days. Some were moved, while others were even burned.
