Eight trucks and construction equipment from the construction company Charpentier in Vendée, which participated in the construction of megabasins, went up in smoke during the night from Sunday to Monday, in the town of L'Oie.

An act claimed by the AFP by an organization opposed to “basins”, these artificial water reservoirs used for agricultural irrigation, very controversial.

In this e-mail sent to our colleagues shortly after 5 a.m., this organization presenting itself as “Stop Mégabassines” claimed this “disarmament” action against the Charpentier company.

“Early this morning, November 25, 2024, we set fire to the Charpentier group’s construction equipment, more particularly those of its public works subsidiary”in “direct response to the participation of this company in the Méga-Bassines construction sites” in Vendée, Charente-Maritime and Deux-Sèvres”affirms this message.

According to this organization, “putting these machines out of harm's way makes it possible to concretely stop the work in progress and to remind us that no one responsible for these is unreachable. Any actor who will be associated with future Méga-Bassines work sites (.. .) will suffer the consequences“, threatens this message.

Any actor who joins in future mega-basin projects will suffer the consequences.

According to this collective, which could not be contacted directly, “putting these machines out of harm's way makes it possible to concretely stop the projects in progress and to remind us that no one responsible for them is unreachable.” “Any actor who joins in future mega-basin projects will suffer the consequences “continues this message.

Reached by telephone, the public works company preferred not to communicate about the incident. According to an AFP correspondent, on site in the morning, criminal identification specialists from the gendarmerie were on the scene but the gendarmes refused to make any comments on the origin of the fire.
