Windows 11 update pauses Star Wars Outlaws and other big games

Star Wars Outlaws finally arrived on Steam last week. Unfortunately, there is also an issue with the latest version of Windows that causes the open-world sci-fi adventure game and other Ubisoft games to not work. Microsoft has acknowledged the issue and is suspending the update for now.

“After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you may experience issues with some Ubisoft games,” reads a warning on the Microsoft website. “These games may become unresponsive upon startup, loading, or during active gameplay. In some cases, users may receive a black screen. » The following games are listed as “incompatible with the latest update.”

• Avatar: Pandora’s Borders
• Star Wars Outlaws

If you’re spotting a pattern, it’s that these are open-world Ubisoft games and some of the publisher’s most popular releases in recent years. Microsoft has issued a compatibility hold to prevent the update from releasing on PCs with the above games installed, and says it works with Ubisoft “on one resolution.”

In the meantime, Ubisoft has released its own patch for Star Wars Outlaws to try to alleviate issues for everyone who has already installed the latest Windows 11 update. “We have also just deployed a temporary fix (v1.4.1) for players who were experiencing issues while playing on Windows 11 24H2” , indicate the patch notes. “Please note that you may experience performance issues while we work on a more permanent fix.”

It’s unclear how many players are actually affected by the issue. Windows Update began rolling out earlier this month, and by November 21, Star Wars Outlaws was only available through Ubisoft’s proprietary Ubisoft+ launcher.
