A young 18-year-old woman died in a motorcycle accident in Bassens, north of Bordeaux, in Gironde, on Sunday November 24, BFMTV.com learned this Monday from the department prefecture, confirming information from Sud Ouest. An investigation has been opened for manslaughter, we learned from the Bordeaux public prosecutor's office.
“During an unauthorized motorized gathering commonly known as an 'urban rodeo', two motorcycles collided, resulting in the death of a young woman born in 2005 and two serious injuries,” the prosecution told BFMTV.com.
According to South Westthe accident occurred on Sunday on Boulevard de l'Industrie in the early evening. The young woman was on a motorcycle and was not wearing a helmet when she was hit by another two-wheeler, according to the first elements of the investigation.
In addition to this young woman, two other people, aged 19 and 23, were injured in the accident. They were transported in absolute emergency to the Pellegrin university hospital center, located in Bordeaux. According to France Bleu, relatives of the young woman who died, in shock, were taken care of by the firefighters.
Not an isolated case
The PS mayor of Bassens Alexandre Rubio deplored to France Bleu a “dramatic” event, but not isolated in the town, particularly in the area located near the port where young people regularly do urban rodeos.
“This phenomenon has been poisoning the lives of residents of the town for months,” he assured.
“Everyone is informed of the subject, all the authorities, the police forces. And we cannot resolve the problem,” he again admitted, even though a municipal decree had nevertheless been issued to prohibit the circulation of two-wheelers on weekends on the boulevard where the accident occurred.
“How many deaths will it take for this problem to be taken seriously. I am both tired and exasperated,” he complained to France 3.
On August 2, a 22-year-old young man died on a motorcycle on the same boulevard, according to Sud Ouest. He died on the spot.
