Although the circumstances of the murder of Rabbi Tzvi Kogan still remained unclear on Monday, the United Arab Emirates announced the arrest of three suspects, all of Uzbek origin.
Missing since Thursday, November 22 in the United Arab Emirates, Israeli-Moldovan rabbi Tzvi Kogan was finally found dead on Sunday.
In the hours following this announcement, local authorities provided more details informing that they had arrested three suspects, all of Uzbek nationality.
In a statement, the Ministry of the Interior specified that “the competent authorities of the security services revealed the identity of three people who carried out the murder: Olimbay Tohirovich (28 years old), Makhmudjon Abdurakhim (28 years old) and Azizbek Kamilovich (33 years old).”
The funeral of the religious celebrated at night
According to Israeli media, the rabbi had been married for several months. Tzvi Kogan was an emissary of the ultra-Orthodox Chabad Lubavitch Hasidic movement. In this context, the 28-year-old man was committed to strengthening Jewish identity and bringing Jews closer to their faith.
Tzvi Kogan's body was being repatriated to Israel this Monday afternoon. His movement had announced earlier in the day that the rabbi's funeral would take place on the night of Monday, November 25 to Tuesday, November 26.
The Israeli government, upon learning of this murder, described this act as “anti-Semitic terrorism”. The Chief Rabbi of the Emirates, Elie Abadie, spoke to AFP, expressing the “sadness and shock” of the Jewish community.
