Sunday evening, a fire broke out shortly after 9 p.m. in a building located on rue de Panama, in Évreux. According to information reported by the news site Actu.frthe fire apparently started in an apartment on the third floor, probably due to a faulty gas stove.
The building, named “Savoie”, was quickly taken over by emergency services, mobilizing 24 firefighters to put out the flames and secure the premises. The fire mainly affected the apartment where it broke out, leaving the rest of the building intact.
A human tragedy despite the rapid intervention of the firefighters
In the apartment in question, a 93-year-old woman unfortunately lost her life, victim of the fire. A 66-year-old man, present in the building, was injured and treated by emergency services before being transported to the Évreux hospital center.
Despite the scale of the firefighter deployment, the disaster did not require rehousing for the other residents of this building in the Eure department. Although no trace of the fire was visible on the facade this Monday morning, this tragedy once again illustrates the risks of domestic accidents linked to kitchen equipment in old homes.
