Charleroi is far from being inferior to Genk. But the score ended up reminding the Zebras of the reality of their situation in the standings.
As often this season, Charleroi showed very good things between the two rectangles. But the refrain is just as well known: as long as the team does not demonstrate more efficiency, it will be involved in the fight for maintenance.
“I am saddened by the score given the performance of the Zebras. The missed opportunity to Nikola Stulic alone sums up Charleroi’s offensive malaise since the start of the season. And it’s 0-0, at a time when Charleroi is perhaps putting out its best performance of the season, against the leader. And then, we know the scenario of an ineffective team which pays dearly for its defensive errors” analyzes Guillaume Gillet for RTBF.
My kingdom for a scorer
For the consultant, Stulic must still remain in the team for the clash against Standard: “He is not having a bad match, far from it. He is making good calls. The occasion is very frustrating for him, he -even sees it in the background before shooting. Stulic only played because.Elder Dabbagh returned too late from his selection. But Rik De Mil must be happy with his striker’s match, he didn’t score the goal that could have changed everything but he was there, he fought, he just missed the goal but it’s what Charleroi has been missing for a long time.
Charleroi has scored only two goals in his last six games. Solving the problem against Standard could count double. But the Zebras will have to cope without suspended Daan Heymans. The puzzle is therefore significant for Rik De Mil.
“He is not in danger based on the game proposed but in football, we know that there are only results that count. The management is satisfied with the work of its coach. But at a given moment, if the numbers catch up with you, you have to make a decision” concludes Gillet.
