The town of Rognac, near , shifted during an early municipal election on Sunday by electing a candidate from the National Rally, a first in the department for almost 30 years. The elected mayor, Christophe Gonzalez, who presented himself under a double label “union of rights” RN-RPR, the formation built by the deputy and departmental delegate RN Franck Allisio, won the election with 38.05% of the votes. resulting from a quadrangular, according to figures communicated Monday by the Bouches-du-Rhône prefecture.

“A historic victory”

“A historic victory,” praised Franck Allisio to AFP, assuring that it was “a strong message” for the 2026 municipal elections. “It shows that when we play a regular election, it 'that is to say without anyone being bought between the two rounds, we win!' The choice of the inhabitants of Rognac, according to him, “is the same as that of the Provençaux in the legislative elections”, when the RN was placed in the lead in the first round in all the constituencies of Bouches-du-Rhône outside Marseille.

Rognac, 12,500 inhabitants, located on the edge of the Etang de Berre, had to organize early municipal elections following the resignation of around ten municipal councilors against a backdrop of poor financial management by the various-right town hall. This is the first time in almost 30 years that the RN has won a town in the department, after the victory of the National Front in 1995 in , and that of 1997 in .

For outgoing mayor Sylvie Miceli-Houdais, interviewed by La Provence, “the political landscape will look like this in 2026”.
