An eleventh team will be created in

The Formula 1 landscape could experience a major upheaval with the arrival of General Motors (GM) as an official team from 2026 under the Cadillac banner… but not Andretti!

According to information reported by PlanetF1the American manufacturer has decided to separate from its partner, Andretti Global, to carry out its solo project with a view to entering Formula 1 by 2026.

Since January 2023, Andretti and General Motors had joined forces to integrate Formula 1. This collaboration, supported by the FIA, aimed to bring a new player onto the grid. However, the project never fully convinced Formula One Management (FOM). Those responsible believed that the alliance did not fully meet the criteria of competitiveness and financial contribution required for a new team.

Faced with these obstacles, GM decided to continue its approach independently, by negotiating directly with the FOM. According to available information, the manufacturer is aiming for integration as a team from 2026, with the ambition of developing its own powertrain from 2028.

An imminent announcement for General Motors?

Despite the lack of official confirmation, rumors suggest that an announcement could be made in the coming weeks. This new strategy would mark a turning point for General Motors, but also for Andretti.

We know that Michael Andretti took a step back from the project by entrusting the management to Dan Towriss, but we assume that GM will rely on the preparation put in place by Andretti Global even if Andretti’s name may no longer appear in the new team identity.

A strategic opportunity for and GM

The arrival of General Motors as official manufacturer constitutes a major strategic step forward for F1. By attracting a giant such as GM, the discipline strengthens its appeal among major global brands and consolidates its development in North America. With three Grands Prix held in the United States, including the highly anticipated one in Las Vegas, interest in F1 in the North American market is booming.

The move, if it comes to fruition, shows GM’s ambition to become a key player in Formula 1, at a time when the sport is rapidly moving towards more sustainable technologies and increased commercial opportunities.
