The Israeli authorities have announced that from January 1, 2025, tourists from countries exempt from visas for Israel will have to apply for an electronic travel authorization (ETA IL) to travel to Israel.
A pilot project was launched on June 1 by the Israeli Civil Status and Immigration Authority and it was therefore decided to generalize this practice.
As of January 1, 2025, French nationals traveling to Israel must request, via the Internet, an electronic travel authorization before departure (Electronic Travel Authorization – ETA-IL).
The ETA-IL can be obtained by answering questions asked on the website of the Population and Immigration Authority, the only site authorized by the Israeli authorities. Its broadcast costs 25 shekels payable online.
The ETA does not constitute a right of entry into Israeli territory, which remains granted or refused upon arrival by the immigration officer.
The authorization is valid for 2 years from the date of issue, but must be renewed in the event of a change in situation or if the validity date of the passport is less than this 2-year period.
Israeli citizens (including dual nationals) and foreigners holding an Israeli identification number or visa are not subject to ETA-IL.
