This Monday morning, farmers from Essonne are taking action in a food logistics center in Brétigny-sur-Orge. A filter barrier is organized in front of the storage center and trucks transporting food products of foreign origin are blocked by members of the Rural Coordination, according to France Info. “An agreement with Mercosur would cause unfair competition and cause prices to fall in France. Many farmers would go out of business in the next two years,” says Matthieu Lutton, member of rural coordination 91. remarks reported by France 3 Paris Ile-de-France.
08:11 – EU-Mercosur, insecticides… The European Parliament should be targeted this Tuesday
This week, “almost all departments plan to take action,” warned the Young Farmers (JA). Farmers will notably defend the return of an insecticide, acetamiprid (demanded by hazelnut and sugar beet producers, banned in France but used in the EU), while reaffirming their hostility to the free trade treaty between the EU and Mercosur. After various blockages, notably in Bordeaux and throughout the South West, the Rural Coordination is planning an action this Tuesday before the European Parliament in Strasbourg, as well as an operation to clean ditches in the Hautes-Alpes and the continuation of the blockade of distributors’ purchasing centers.
