MISCELLANEOUS FACTS. Sad Sunday for Wickham residents as their house on Route 139 was completely destroyed by fire.
The fire was discovered just before 5 p.m. According to a family member, the homeowners were returning from shopping when they saw flames attacking the house.
The first firefighters to arrive on scene quickly noticed that the flames had already grown significantly to the rear of the residence.
Four alarms were sounded and firefighters from Acton Vale and Saint-Nazaire-D’Acton came to provide reinforcement.
In addition, a power cutoff was requested in order to secure the work of the firefighters, plunging the village into darkness.
Firefighters attacked the house from all sides, but it was impossible for them to get closer to carry out an attack inside the walls due to the fragility of the structure. The wind, which gusted to 29 km/h, complicated the work of the sappers.
The losses will be significant. A car was also in a garage.
A mechanical excavator was requested at the end of the intervention to bring down the walls which were unstable.
Route 139 was closed to traffic for a long time between the 11th and 10th Rang, which forced motorists to make a long detour. SIUCQ responders supported the firefighters and ensured traffic in the area.
The Red Cross was called in to help the victims.
The investigation was initiated following the extinction.
During the intervention of the Drummondville firefighters, the Durham-Sud firefighters provided fire coverage in Saint-Nicéphore.
