Françoise takes the train in a station without a counter or vending machine: can she board without a ticket?

Françoise regularly takes the train at a station which has neither ticket counter nor vending machine. Can she therefore board without a ticket?

Françoise asks questions via the orange Alert Us button. She frequently takes the train at a station where there is no ticket counter or vending point. Can she enter the train without a ticket?

The answer is: yes. She can enter the train, provided she goes to see the attendant to buy her ticket. It is possible to buy your ticket once you are seated inside, but payment is only by card.

However, be careful, if you buy your ticket on board, you will have to pay an extra €9… Unless you board at a station where there is no ticket machine or ticket counter, as is the case for Françoise.

As a general rule, SNCB recommends purchasing your transport ticket in advance. Either online or at the station if possible.

If you board without a ticket and you have no way to pay, you will have to pay €90 within two weeks. Exceeding this deadline, you risk a fine of up to €500.
