Florentino Pérez believes that the 2024 Ballon d’Or should go to a Real Madrid player and not Rodri. On Saturday, the Spanish midfielder solemnly presented his trophy to the Man City crowd.
While joy continues to animate Blues fans, bitterness among the Merengues still remains strong. Indeed, almost a month after the 2024 Ballon d’Or award ceremony, the controversy surrounding the winner of the trophy continues.
The president of Real Madrid relaunched the debate this Sunday, November 24, 2024 at the club’s General Assembly.

According to Florentino Pérez, if certain countries had given their votes to Vinicius Junior, he would have won the prestigious trophy.
“Without Namibia, Uganda, Albania and Finland, Vinicius would have won the Ballon d’Or. These countries did not give any votes to Vini.
Not a single one! The Finn, at least, resigned. He said he would no longer serve on the jury. I enjoyed it,” Perez said.
For the Madrid leader, the Ballon d’Or should have gone to Vinicius, Bellingham or Carvajal. He deplores that certain votes were oriented in such a way as to favor other players.
Note that the Ballon d’Or is awarded based on the votes of 100 journalists representing the highest ranked countries in the FIFA rankings.
Each of them submits a ballot including ten names, awarding points according to a precise scale: 15 points for the first, 12 for the second, and so on.
Two weeks ago, Juha Kanerva, a Finnish journalist and member of the Ballon d’Or jury, resigned.
The latter admitted to having committed “technical error” by not awarding any points to Vinicius.
“This is a technical error on my part, for which I take responsibility,” he declared on social networks.
