United Arab Emirates: Arrest of 3 suspects in the murder of Rabbi Zvi Kogan

The United Arab Emirates has arrested three people responsible for the murder of Abu Dhabi-based Rabbi Zvi Kogan, the Emirati Interior Ministry announced on Sunday evening, adding that it was done “in record time”.

The statement highlighted the country’s “capacity to deal firmly with anyone who attempts to undermine the security and stability of society.”

Kogan was an Israeli-Moldovan national, but the UAE statement only names him as “a Moldovan citizen.”

According to the statement, an investigation was opened after Kogan’s family reported him missing. The findings of the investigation will be announced once it is completed.

“The UAE, with all its institutions, will spare no effort to prevent any attacks against its citizens, residents and visitors,” the statement said, adding that “all security agencies are working around the clock to protect the stability of society and ensure the sustainability of the highest levels of security and safety that have been established since the founding of the State.

Israeli authorities previously announced that Kogan’s body was found in the Emirati city of Al Ain, on the border with Oman, about 150 kilometers from Abu Dhabi.

The day before, Israeli media reported that authorities suspected several Uzbek citizens recruited by Iran of attacking the rabbi and then fleeing to Türkiye.

Israel called it “a despicable act of anti-Semitic terrorism,” vowing to use all available means to bring the perpetrators of this murder to justice.

Kogan had worked in Abu Dhabi since 2020, the year of the normalization of relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates.

Kogan was also a relative of Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg, who was killed alongside his wife in a terrorist attack at Chabad Nariman in Mumbai in 2008, according to N12.
