War in Ukraine: what do we know about the “arrangement” envisaged between Donald Trump and Joe Biden to end the conflict?

the essential
The Trump administration and Biden are currently working on an “arrangement” that both parties believe could help end the conflict in Ukraine. Donald Trump, who is due to be inaugurated as President of the United States on January 20, said he was “worried” about the ongoing “escalation”.

In the controversial Ukrainian issue, is an “arrangement” really possible between Joe Biden and Donald Trump? The first has just given the green light to kyiv for the Ukrainian armed forces to use long-range missiles against Russia. The second has been advocating for several weeks a gradual disengagement of the United States from this conflict. One would therefore have thought that with regard to the Russo-Ukrainian war, it was a gulf between the outgoing president and the newly elected Republican.

But this Sunday, November 24, the teams of Donald Trump and Joe Biden seem to have found common ground on this issue. In any case, this is what Mike Waltz, the future White House security advisor, said, explaining that the future president of the United States said he was very “concerned” by the current “escalation”. “President Trump has been very clear about the need to end this conflict. What we need to discuss is who will be at the table, whether this is an agreement, a armistice, how to bring the two parties around the table and what will be the framework of an arrangement”, continues the advisor to Fox News.

The person concerned also explains that the two administrations will work together on this common arrangement “until January”.

Trump's plan to end the conflict

Joe Biden's decision to authorize the use of long-range missiles was strongly criticized by Donald Trump and his teams. The Republican also pointed out the billions of dollars that were paid to kyiv to help Volodymyr Zelensky and his people fight the Russian armed forces. The American tycoon, however, has never stopped advocating peace. For this, the latter wanted to convince kyiv to abandon part of its territory, the furthest to the east, in particular to create a strip of demilitarized land which would be managed by Europe. At the same time, Ukraine should also promise not to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) for the next 20 years.

Not sure that this alternative suits Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who wants this war to “end, but that it ends in a fair way: if it is a quick end, it will mean a defeat for Ukraine” , commented the Ukrainian head of state. For his part, Vladimir Putin did not hesitate to make threats towards Western countries which would come to the aid of Ukraine in the context of this conflict.
