Cyclocross World Cup: Eli Iserbyt wins for the first time in Antwerp and takes the overall lead (video)

The next round will take place on Sunday December 1st in Dublin, Ireland.

“It feels good to win, for once, two races in a row,” reacted Iserbyt. “My condition was better than my last results implied, and which caused some frustration. Winning in Kortrijk on Saturday, in what I could call a home race, freed me, and it showed Today”.

The Belgian champion won ahead of sand specialist Laurens Sweeck. “The sand sections went very well for Sweeck, but once he hit the straights he had to adapt his pace. […] I now hope to be on the right track for the rest of the season.”

For his part, Sweeck had to recognize Iserbyt’s superiority after the race. “When Iserbyt accelerated in the middle of the cross, I didn’t really have an answer. So I can settle for second place. Michael Vanthourenhout was on course to get that second place, but he suddenly had a puncture. Bad luck part of the cross country and fortunately I was spared this time.”

“Without this problem, I would be second today” confirmed Vanthourenhout, third. “I already felt doomed after passing through the forest, I felt like my tire was deflating.” The Pauwels Sauces-Bingoal runner was, however, delighted with his physical condition, which is “improving” after a “small training course in Spain”. Vanthourenhout also believes his team showed they “are up to the task” this weekend after “disappointing results”.
