Florentino Perez still can't digest

Last month, controversy raged around the 2024 Ballon d'Or.

Vinicius Junior was the favorite, but it was ultimately Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri Hernandez who won.

Real Madrid learned that Rodri would be the winner on the day of the award and decided at the last minute to boycott the event in protest. Florentino Perez was reportedly behind the decision and, during the club's general meeting on Sunday, he addressed the matter publicly (via Marca).

“The Ballon d’Or is an event that UEFA is organizing for the first time in history with . I want to say that Rodri is a great footballer and he is from Madrid, he has our affection. He deserved a Ballon d'Or, but not this year, but last year. This one was for a Real Madrid player. The clamor was for Vinicius, but it could have been for our captain, Carvajal. Or even Bellingham. It’s very difficult to explain.”

Real Madrid are not planning to be snubbed by the Ballon d'Or, although their players will be eager to ensure the prize comes home in 2025.
