Guest of the RTL-M6-Le Figaro-Public Senate Grand Jury, Sunday November 24, the boss of the E.Leclerc group Michel-Édouard Leclerc affirmed that there would be no significant drop in prices despite a reduction in inflation.
With a significant drop in inflation, a drop in prices in supermarkets could be expected. But we are probably not moving towards that. “We do not have a significant, very strong drop, neither at present nor in perspective”warned Michel-Édouard Leclerc, guest of the Grand Jury RTL-M6-Le Figaro-Public SenatSunday November 24.
“All the inflation that was taken over the previous three years, it's in someone's pocket or it went into someone's investment, and it won't come back in the form of a -20% bonus or -30% within three months which comes into the consumer's pocket”explained the president of the group E.Leclerc.
We will not return to pre-Covid prices
He said he was certain that there would not be a return to 2019 prices, before the Covid crisis and the inflation crisis. “A period of negotiations will begin for which we are in the process of receiving prices from major suppliers. All price requests are on the rise. Obviously, I can tell you, faith of Leclerc, that we are going to go look for declines, particularly in sectors where things have soared”he still affirmed. While promising to seek reductions, Michel-Édouard Leclerc warns that“we must not deceive ourselves“. There will, for example, not be 30% reductions on products whose prices have increased significantly in recent years.
