The black ice caused damage to the Montagne Noire in La Malbaie. At least five Hydro-Québec poles and several trees were broken, causing a power outage for residential and commercial customers of the state-owned company.
“It was impossible to start work last night. The place is difficult to access. We first had to clear the access road to allow telecommunications companies to carry generators,” comments Ariane Doucet, spokesperson for Hydro-Québec.
Orizon Mobile owns one of three telecommunications towers in the affected area. For this company, the power outage changed nothing. A generator powers their facilities.
Two other towers are located in the area affected by the outage. Hydro-Québec teams are on site.
The Leqel company was mobilized to replace the broken posts.
The operation to replace them began around 5 p.m.
The area was so icy that chains were installed on the trucks to be able to reach the different sites.
