Two weeks after the official launch of the marketing of the PlayStation 5 Pro, the first sales estimates are starting to appear on the web, allowing us to better understand the enthusiasm around Sony’s new machine and to compare these data match those of the PS4 Pro, launched 8 years ago. Against all expectations, the price of the PS5 Pro, seemingly prohibitive, has absolutely not harmed its sales: the console even beats its predecessor over an equivalent period!
Sony applies the strategy of the PS4 to the PS5: the PS5 Pro model is debated… but finds a buyer!
In recent years, the life cycle of the different generations of consoles has no longer been the same, and the Japanese firm Sony has a lot to do with these changes.. With the advent of the PlayStation 4, Sony has had the habit of reviewing the design of its home consoles in order to offer the basic machine – the famous “FAT” model – in several versions. There was the PlayStation 4 Slim and then, above all, the PlayStation 4 Pro, allowing us to take a step forward in terms of performance. Today, history repeats itself (and even gets louder!) with the PlayStation 5. Beyond a shiny new machine – the PS5 Pro -, the entire ecosystem around this latest generation console has developed.
Accessories, second generation virtual reality headset, additional support for remote gaming (PlayStation Portal)… Casually, if you want to acquire as much of this equipment as possible, the bill quickly adds up. Moreover, speaking of the financial aspect, the price of the PlayStation 5 Pro has caused a lot of ink to flow since its official announcement. Apart from its very high cost of 800 euros, Sony’s new machine was awaited for a whole bunch of other reasons: performance, technologies, game catalog… If there is currently no point of comparison with a home console produced by another manufacturer, competition is rather to be found on the side of the firm itself. Because, yes, its results were inevitably going to be compared to those of the PS4 Pro!

PS5 Pro in the shadow of PS4 Pro sales? It’s quite the opposite!
A little over two weeks after its official launch, how is the PlayStation 5 Pro doing compared to its predecessor? If some have been able to contrast the two visions of these two models, it seems that they have both found their audience. According to journalist Mat Piscatella, a renowned video game industry analyst from the editorial staff of Circa, the Japanese public requested the PlayStation 5 Pro model more than that of the PS4 Pro at the time ! According to the figures provided, the PS4 Pro sold 62,194 units during its first week on sale compared to 78,086 units for the PlayStation 5 Pro.
As Mat Piscatella points out, the two consoles are roughly in the same sales range, with a slight lead on the PlayStation 5 Pro side. More pre-ordered than the PS4 Pro, also more sold, the PlayStation 5 Pro is gradually establishing itself, but it remains to be seen whether success will indeed be confirmed in the long term for Sony. At any rate, this is a very nice start for the new version of the PS5 which, on the one hand, exceeds sales forecasts in certain European countries (here, Spain) and, on the other hand, even offers the small pleasure of overshadowing the Nintendo Switch in the Japanese charts (64,012 copies, Nintendo side, against 78,086, Sony side).
