Five bags recovered from the port of Miquelon after the SPM Ferries incident

Around ten people were mobilized on Friday morning to extract the trolley and luggage of passengers from the ferry from the day before from the water. Everything had fallen apart after a maneuvering error. Compensation procedures have started.

It was a rescue mission like no other in the port of Miquelon this Friday, November 22 morning. After 30 minutes of underwater searching, the luggage cart and five bags were brought to the surface.

The local authority ensures that SPM Ferries has contacted impacted customers to set up a compensation procedure, on a case-by-case basis. Passengers who were victims of the sinking of their luggage are disappointed. Some bags contained electronic equipment or even Christmas gifts.

When the ferry arrived in the port of Miquelon on Thursday, the removable gangway was apparently lowered far too early while the ship was not yet docked at the quay. A maneuver by the ship would have dragged the luggage trolley towards the gangway open to the waters of the port.
