A man lost his life in an accident of the road in Lot-et-Garonne, Saturday November 24, 2024. This happened in Aiguillon, on departmental road 642, at a place called Miailles, as indicated by our colleagues from South West.

“A terrible tragedy,” comments the mayor of Aiguillon, contacted by The Republican Lot-et-Garonne.

The driver hits a gas box

It was around 6:15 p.m. when the driver of a light vehicle, for an as yet undetermined reason, lost control of his car. He then hit a gas box. “This accident caused a fire, with a gas leak,” specifies the Lot-et-Garonne prefecture in a press release.

“The driver first hit a telephone pole, then an electric pole before hitting a gas pipe,” explains the mayor of the town.

“Six meter flames”

Present on site, alongside Christian Girardi, Eric Le Moine, second assistant, described “flames up to six meters high”.

Around the scene of the tragedy, a security perimeter is established.

It was around 10 p.m. the fire was extinguished by firefighters. Unfortunately, the man inside the vehicle, a resident of Aiguillon, died.

A major gas cut around Aiguillon

This terrible accident deprived some 500 families in Aiguillon of gas as well as many homes in the neighboring villages of Laffite-sur-Lot and Granges-sur-Lot.

“The teams are doing everything possible to restore the situation,” underlines Christian Girardi. Gas tanks came specially from and to supply our town. »

The day after the tragedy, in the morning, departmental road 642 was closed to traffic.
