A man was shot dead after opening fire on security forces in the Israeli embassy area of the Jordanian capital Amman at dawn on Sunday, November 24. Three members of the security services were injured, the official Petra agency also announced.
“The Directorate of Public Security announced that it had encountered an incident of shooting on a patrol in the Rabieh area”according to this source. “A person opened fire on a patrol operating in the area, where security forces arrived (…) and located the shooter who tried to flee”according to the agency citing the authorities. The man, “pursued and surrounded, began firing shots at the security forces, who in return applied the rules of engagement, which allowed the perpetrator to be killed”she added.
Government spokesperson Mohammad Momani then denounced “a terrorist attack”in a press release relayed by the Petra agency, adding that the assailant had a criminal history linked to narcotics. Protests against the Israeli embassy have regularly taken place in recent years in the Rabieh neighborhood, located in the northwest of the Jordanian capital.
