On the conflict in the Middle East, Recep Tayyip Erdogan is particularly satisfied with the latest decision of the ICC. The Turkish president indeed welcomed on Saturday the “courageous decision” of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to issue arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
“We support the arrest warrant. We find it important that this courageous decision is implemented by all the countries party to the agreement in order to renew humanity's confidence in the international system,” affirmed the Turkish head of state during a speech at Istanbul. “It is imperative that Western countries, which have been lecturing the world on law, justice and human rights for years, keep their promises at this stage,” he added.
A warrant also against a Hamas leader
Since the start of the war in Gaza, Recep Tayyip Erdogan has repeatedly affirmed that his country will do “everything possible” to hold Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israeli authorities “to account”.
The ICC provoked Israel's fury by issuing unprecedented arrest warrants on Thursday against Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
