The incident took place this Saturday, November 23, around noon, in Creil, in Oise. An old cast iron drinking water pipe broke at the intersection between rue de la République and rue de Marl, causing flooding on the road and major disruptions in water distribution.

It also caused a major water leak in the city center. At the beginning of the afternoon, the water leak was stopped. “A security system has been put in place by the fire services jointly with the police. Traffic has been cut towards the Oise from the Berthe Fouchère roundabout. It is possible to take the direction of Oise via rue Albert Dugué“, reports the city in a press release.

Most streets were able to be replenished with running water by mid-afternoon. There are still 40 homes without running water. Bottles of water were made available free of charge at the Maison de la Ville de Creil for these residents. “Technical services are hard at work repairing the pipe.“The town hall hopes to give them access to drinking water again during the night.

The press release informs that “Some affected sectors will require power to be turned off. For affected households, the city of Creil will make the Salle Voltaire (39, rue Voltaire) available to families for the evening and night.“A power cut is also in progress, during the work, between Place du 8 Mai and Rue Aristide Briand.

Furthermore, the incident had repercussions on the water network of a neighboring town, Saint-Leu d'Esserent. The city announced that 85,000 households are currently affected by “a lack of water pressure […] due to the rupture of the pipe.
