A 94-year-old woman was taken to safety.
The Pyrénées-Orientales firefighters were called to intervene on an apartment fire in the Saint-Jacques district of Perpignan, this Saturday, November 23, 2024 early in the morning. The damaged accommodation is located on the third floor of a building located on rue Saint-François-de-Paule, and was probably squatted.
The blaze, whose origin is currently unknown, is said to have extended to the roof, causing no casualties.
On the second floor, a 94-year-old resident was taken care of and could be rehoused by City services. From 9 a.m., nearly twenty firefighters were on the job but did not carry out any other evacuations in the area.
Given the narrow streets and cramped spaces, the steps taken by firefighters to make everything safe take time, particularly regarding degreasing and work on the tiles.
