“Max has already won the championship”

With Red Bull struggling in Las Vegas, Lando Norris had a golden opportunity to try and keep his title hopes alive. Only 6th due – also – to a difficult car, the Briton knows that his chances are very slim against Max Verstappen.

In the book of the 2024 season, there will be highlights that Lando Norris will remember bitterly. Days when the Briton was too soft and the title slipped through his fingers despite a formidable McLaren. But qualifying for the Las Vegas Grand Prix will not be at the same level. Firstly because the title is almost played, but above all because the McLaren is not as comfortable as usual on this urban track.

The cold and the lack of grip of the track make the MCL38 delicate and neither Lando Norris (6th) nor Oscar Piastri (8th) managed to do wonders with it. The Briton finds himself on the third row, alongside Max Verstappen. But ultimately, taking care of the Dutchman is no longer the priority for Lando Norris, who seems to have put any hope of a title out of his head. On the other hand, he aims to at least get back on the podium.

“The car is too difficult, it's a real challenge to drive it. There is very little grip here, that helps a lot of cars, we see it at Alpine for Pierre, who did a very good job. The Haas were also very fast. For our part, we suffered all weekend with the balance of the car. We would like to have a car that is easy to drive, but we can't do it already. I'm going to aim for the best position possible, no matter where it is Max. I will try to get on the podium, in any case I will do my best.”
