In search of a 99th World Cup victory, Mikaela Shiffrin won the first round of the Gurgl slalom, and will start with a 13 hundredths lead over Wendy Holdener during the second, from 1:30 p.m.
The Austrian resort of Gurgl makes its debut on the Women's Ski World Cup calendar this season, and who better to put its name on the list than slalom queen Mikaela Shiffrin? The American skier, who is aiming for her 99th victory, has made it halfway, since she won the first round, which took place in very different weather conditions from the slalom in Levi (Finland), which she won last week.
Under a beautiful blue sky but a temperature of -15°C, the queen of world skiing did not sign the perfect round, but she has a sufficiently higher level than all her competition (especially since Petra Vlhova is still absent after her serious knee injury) to win this round. She won with a lead of 13 hundredths over the Swiss Wendy Holdener and 52 over the Austrian Katharina Liensberger, which still leaves some suspense before the second round, which will begin at 1:30 p.m.
Two Blues in the second round
On the French side, there will be two in the second round: Chiara Pogneaux (22 years old), who finished 1″82 behind Shiffrin, and Clarisse Brèche (23 years old), who finished at 2″12 and had obtained the best result of her career last week in Levi (12th). Marie Lamure and Marion Chevrier, on the other hand, failed by a few hundredths.
