Some deny climate change, but we can reverse the dynamic.
How can we prevent the climate issue from fracturing French society as it does in the United States?
Salty fracture. With the return of Donald Trump to the White House, a fear is gripping French environmentalists: will we experience the same backlash on the ecological issue as the Americans? Elements of response by Mélusine Boon-Falleur, researcher in cognitive sciences at the Center for Research on Social Inequalities at Sciences po Paris.
In the United States, the climate issue has become an emblem of polarization. An inveterate climate skeptic, Donald Trump campaigned with slogans such as “drill baby drill” and attacks against the “new green scam”: the Inflation Reduction Act, an investment plan in green energies and ecological initiatives put in place in August 2022 by Joe Biden.
Like him, his electorate seems little concerned about the fate of the planet and more readily attributes Hurricane Milton which devastated Florida last October to a conspiracy, rather than to a meteorological phenomenon. On the Democratic side, the population is up in arms and worried about the fate that Trump has in store for ecology. We see caricatures of the future president and his voters on social networks, as well as messages of anxiety about the future of the planet.
This divide on the ecological question seems to extend to Europe. In France, polls show an alarming increase in climate skepticism. According to an Obscop report, one in three French people questions the human origins of climate change. Even if these figures need to be contextualized, they reflect a very real phenomenon in France: a growing conflict around the ecological transition.

Four reasons to recognize the Mediterranean Sea as a legal natural entity
Water guard. Grant the Mediterranean Sea the status of a legal natural entity to better protect it. Since the idea was launched, it has been accused of being unrealizable, utopian, naive, dangerous… Here are at least four arguments which show, conversely, that this project is not only desirable, but also necessary. And for good reason: the Mediterranean Sea represents only 1% of the earth's surface, but is home to 10% of its biodiversity. – Vert (The Conversation)
· Straight path. The Public Rapporteur has issued a negative opinion on the A69 construction site – the controversial Toulouse-Castres motorway -, for lack of compelling reason of major public interest. The Toulouse administrative court must rule on Monday, in a hearing, on a possible cancellation of the environmental authorization for the A69.
