Algeria Football – Soon back on the pitch with AC Milan after a very long injury, the midfielder of the Algerian team, Ismael Bennacer, is making a decision on his future.
Ismaël Bennacer, midfielder for the Algerian team and AC Milan, could consider leaving if his sporting situation does not improve. During a recent press conference, Milan coach Paulo Fonseca suggested that the Algerian international might no longer be an indisputable starter upon his return from injury. Fonseca indeed seems to favor Frenchman Seko Fofana as first choice in midfield, relegating Bennacer to an understudy role, barring injuries or suspensions.
Such a declaration constitutes a real blow for Bennacer, who has always stood out for his consistency and his impact in the Milan midfield. Since his arrival at Milan, he has established himself as one of the team's executives, notably winning the Scudetto in 2022. However, after a long absence due to a knee injury, the midfielder seems to have to fight for regain his place in the starting lineup.
Bennacer, known for his combative character, however, does not wish to settle for a secondary role. According to reports, he is seriously considering leaving if his situation does not improve. A transfer as early as January seems unlikely, but a departure during the 2025 summer transfer window could become a realistic option if Fonseca maintains his current choices.
This prospect of departure could revive transfer rumors around the Algerian international, whose talent attracts the interest of many European clubs. For the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), such a situation is worrying, Bennacer being a centerpiece of Vladimir Petkovic's system. His final choice will certainly influence the dynamics of the Fennecs and his own future at the club.
