It was barely 5 a.m. on the night of November 22 to 23, 2024, when the firefighters were alerted of a fire at the tramway technical maintenance center, 2 rue Daniel-Mayer, in Tours north.
A release of smoke had been detected at the level of a traction battery, on the roof of a parked train in the center. It was the driver of Fil bleu, who was to start her shift, who raised the alarm.
Power cut
The firefighters intervened with twenty-five men and five engines; chemical risk specialists were among them. And the start of the fire was quickly brought under control.
This intervention, however, required a power cut in the building, and the tram could not be put into circulation, between Tours north and Joué, this Saturday morning, November 23.
A substitute bus service was in place until service resumed around 8:45 a.m.
This type of incident is not a first in Tours; a similar fire occurred last year. The train concerned should be inspected at the Tours Nord maintenance center next week.
