the essential
Undefeated, the Hornets will face the four other teams in the top 5 between now and Christmas. A good way to gauge their potential. First meeting tomorrow (2 p.m.) at Le Cannet.
Very serious things begin for the Hornets who will face in quick succession the four other teams in the top 5. Before facing co-leaders Cannes (November 30) and Monaco (December 7), then Mandelieu La Napoule to complete 2024 at Cosec René-Ferran (December 21), the CMVbists will take a first test this Sunday (2 p.m.) in Le Cannet (5th). To put all the chances on their side, the Hornets will hit the road on Saturday for a green start in PACA. “We are making sure that the girls are in the best position to achieve a sixth victory in a row,” says coach Grégory Verscheure.
“Impose our game”
For each of its trips this season to the Côte d'Azur, the CMVB has decided to take up residence in a holiday village in Antibes. But the protégés of President Stéphane Cabrol are not going sightseeing. By facing the best teams in the group, the Hornets know that they are approaching a pivotal moment in their season. To preserve their invincibility, the players of the Verscheure-Maury-Boëm trio know that they will have to further raise their level of play and above all avoid the air gaps which played tricks on them at the start of the season. “Facing this training center team, our core game will be essential, warns the coach before this first meeting at Le Cannet. We must continue to impose our game as against L'Union.”
Rise to power
After a weekend break watching the results of the other teams, since they were exempt from the 6th day, Laura Wierre's partners found a certain physical and mental freshness. Above all, they recovered their “trigger” Luawé Tangopi, back from injury. Another asset for a team that is gaining strength at the best time. It remains to be confirmed on the field that the Hornets really have the potential this season to join the fight for the first places.
From this perspective, this first test in PACA is also an opportunity to take a step forward. “We must continue to work on our defense block which will be essential for the next big deadlines that are coming,” insists Grégory Verscheure. Facing a team they have never beaten before, the Hornets know that their mission promises to be delicate, but it is not impossible. Their experience and strength of character should allow them to tame the enthusiasm of the young pros from Le Cannet.
