On Thursday, November 21, a new Russian experimental missile struck a Ukrainian weapons factory, a previously unknown weapon. Vladimir Putin declared this Friday that he was going to mass produce them. Should we be worried?
“It's a missile called the RS-26 originally. Above all, it is a missile which a range between 500 and 5,500 km. Below 500 km, we are in tactical, tactical nuclear. Beyond 5,500 km, we are in the strategic direction. There was a hollow zone since the signing of the FNI treaty, there was a kind of hollow zone in which the Americans and the Russians prohibited themselves from manufacturing this type of weaponry. And there, we can clearly see that for several years, today, the Russians have been remanufacturing this type of equipment,” explains Peer de Jong, former colonel of the Marine troops, guest on RTL.
“Not only are they remanufacturing them, but there is also extremely important technological datasuch as hypervelocity and shooting precision. We can clearly see that the shot is extremely precise. In fact, Putin gave a demonstration. He showed that he mastered the technology and that he was capable of hitting a target, any at a long distance, since he shot at 1,500 km,” he explains.
“Today, all missiles are capable of carrying conventional warheads and nuclear charges. (…) Very concretely, Putin is part of a kind of dialectic of escalation somewhere. And so after the ATACMS shot three days ago, it responded with a more efficient, more precise and stronger means,” believes the former colonel.
