Many questions remain unanswered a month after the death of Savannah Copeland, a 13-year-old American girl found dead in a wood. The suspect is a 15-year-old boy.
What happened to Savannah Copeland? On the morning of October 22, the father of this 13-year-old girl noticed that she was no longer in her room. After several hours without news, the man, who lives in Knoxville, Tennessee, managed to locate his cell phone in a woods not far from their home. Informed, the police went to the scene and discovered the lifeless body of the teenager in a small dirt road.
That same evening, a 15-year-old boy, Malakiah Harris, was arrested and charged with killing Savannah Copeland. He allegedly crossed paths with the young girl in the woods around midnight and stabbed her several times with a pocket knife. He then allegedly continued on his way without speaking to anyone. Heard in court on February 24, the teenager showed “very little emotion” and did not explain his actions, according to Wate. He will be tried on January 14.

In the meantime, the residents of Knoxville have shown many signs of affection to the family of Savannah Copeland and left little notes, flowers and objects in tribute to the teenager at the place of her death. “It kind of helps restore my faith in God and everyone around us,” Michael Copeland told WVLT 8, lamenting, “I think it's a lack of compassion and a lack of empathy that pushed the hand that took my daughter’s life.”

The man describes Savannah Copeland as a young girl “full of courage, enthusiasm and a go-getter attitude.” Those close to her described her in a GoFundMe as a talented cheerleader, who loved horror films and excelled in gymnastics and karate. She aspired to study forensic anthropology in college. “Her beautiful smile lit up the room,” we can read.
