Snow is accumulating more and more in the mountains and winter activities of all kinds will resume in the coming weeks. Every year, it is important to remember that avalanche risks are real and that you need to be prepared when venturing into the backcountry. Gilles Valade, Executive Director of Avalanche Canada, discusses the state of the snowpack at the moment.
It’s a better start to the season than last year. There is more snow than we had at this time last year. We just had a storm and more snow is forecast for the end of the week, so the dangers are always a little higher during a storm or just after. Additionally, it takes a few days to stabilize.
explains Gilles Valade.
